ABSTRACT GUIDELINES

There are two categories of abstract submission types: clinical case reports/series and research.

1. For clinical case reports/series abstracts, the following standard headings should be used: BACKGROUND, CASE DESCRIPTION, and CONCLUSIONS.

*A case report is the description of a single clinical case, while a case series is a description of up to three individual cases. In both instances, IRB approval is not required as this does not qualify as human subjects-based research, but patient identities should remain strictly anonymous.

2. For research abstracts, the following standard headings should be used: PURPOSE, METHODS, RESULTS, and CONCLUSIONS.

*Research involving human subjects (more than three human individuals) is subject to applicable regulatory filings (e.g., IRB./ethics review, informed consent, clinicaltrials,gov).

*Research involving animals must be conducted in accordance with international standards for animal treatment and care, as published by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

* For research submissions, the first author is asked to indicate his or her preference for a Free Paper or Poster presentation (note that there are a VERY limited number Free Papers, which are limited to an 8 minute presentation).

The first author is the both the submitting and the presenting author and is required to assure that the abstract complies with each of the following standards, insofar as they are applicable:

1. The total character count is limited to 2,500 characters (including spaces, punctuation, etc), excluding the title, author names, primary business affiliation.

Submissions that exceed this limit will not be accepted by the website, but the submitter will immediately be given the opportunity to revise the submission so that it fits within this size limit. Images and figures within abstracts are not allowed.

2. Any and all co-author(s) must read the final, submitted version of the abstract and consent to include their name(s) in the list of authors. The first author is responsible for assuring that all co-authors have had the opportunity review the materials, and for assuring that the work is original and not the work of others.

3. Financial relationship disclosures must be reported for each author using the GSLS disclosure form (upload a separate form complete by each author).

4. All abstracts and posters/presentations must be conducted per current ARBO COPE CE guidelines including the absence of advertising or promoting products, services, instruments or devices.

5. Poster presenters are responsible for developing, printing, shipping/transporting, and hanging their poster and will be supplied an appropriately sized board (no smaller than 4’ x 6’) for poster hanging.

Registration and Awards

First authors must be registered for the Global Specialty Lens Symposium and are expected to present their accepted work. First authors for selected Free Papers will receive $150 off registration for the meeting, and first authors for selected poster presentations will receive $100 off their GSLS registration.

At the meeting, there will be a poster competition divided in two categories - Clinical Case Report and Research - and winners will be notified at the GSLS meeting. The winners will receive and American Express gift card. For each category, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive $300 USD, $200 USD, and $100 USD, respectively.

Notifications

The first author will be notified of the Program Committee's decision after October 15, 2019.
